Tips To Prepare For Your Appointment

Appointment Times

Veterinarian appointments are scheduled for 30 minutes and include a physical exam with the doctor. Please allow enough time in your schedule since additional procedures such as taking a blood sample or a radiograph, may require a longer visit.

For new clients, for your convenience, our new client registration form and new patient history forms are available to fill out online. Or if you prefer to do this in person, please try to arrive 15 minutes early for your appointment to allow time to fill out new client and patient forms.

First Time Visits For Birds

If you are bringing a bird to us for the first time, please read this pdf article What should you expect at your first/annual wellness exam with your bird?

Before You Visit

Before you come for an appointment, it’s a good idea to do the following things:

If your pet has been seen by another veterinarian, obtain a copy of your pet’s medical records. The easiest way to do this is to call your previous veterinary hospital and ask to have your pet’s medical records sent to us. Please try to do this several days prior to your appointment. Our fax number is 212-501-9614 and our email is [email protected]

Make notes concerning the environment, diet, and general condition of your pet. We will ask you to fill out a detailed history form, and it's great if you bring photos of the enclosure! The patient history forms are available online for you to review and fill out prior to your visit.

Appointment policies:

Because we are the only veterinary hospital in all of New York City that specializes in exotic pets, we often have a solidly booked appointment schedule and when people do not show up or are late, it makes it very difficult for us to maximize the amount of animals we can help. We have instituted the following policies in order to make the experience here better for those of you who arrive on time and don’t make last minute changes.

  • We require a $50 deposit for new appointments. When you are prompted to leave the deposit, please do so or your request will not be processed. This $50 deposit can be used towards your exam fee on the day of your appointment.
  • We require a phone call the day prior to a scheduled appointment to cancel or change an appointment. Messages left on our voice mail after hours are not acceptable. If we do not speak with you to cancel or change an appointment a day in advance, there will be a $50 missed appointment fee assessed to the account.
  • Please understand that it is impossible for us to help your pet without at least the 30 minutes we allocate for our appointments. Note that the Center is only able to offer a 15-minute grace period for late arrivals of scheduled appointments. Clients who run more than 15 minutes late will respectfully be postponed to the next available appointment. We are happy to accommodate those people who cannot wait for a later time by allowing for Drop Off service where pets can be left with us until the next available time to be seen. This service may incur an additional fee.
  • Photography. The Center photographs most or all patients for identification purposes at the practice. We potentially use these photos on our social media outlets and for educational purposes such as lecturing. [ ** If you do not want us to post your pet’s photo on social media, please let us know when you come into the hospital. ]

If you have any questions about your visit, please call us and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
